But it would be gradually expanded to the district headquarters of Imphal East and West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Churachandpur as well.

Apart from providing facilities like video call, video conferencing, video/picture downloading, high speed internet access, downloading of full tracks of MP3 songs, etc under this new service, Wi-MAX service which would be very useful in rural areas would also be extended in Manipur very soon.

Addressing a press conference after the launch of 3G mobile service, the Chief General Manager acknowledged that BSNL has not been able to provide its service to the people of the State efficiently as a result of erratic power supply.

BSNL also sometime faces the problem of ensuring proper mobile service in rural areas due to lack of diesel, the officer said.

If the power situation improves, the service of the BSNL would be the best, he assured.

In response to a question on reported selling of pre-paid SIM cards of BSNL in Namphalong market of Myanmar, the Chief General Manager maintained that the BSNL is not related to such trades.

Informing that there are many BSNL customers who are yet to clear their outstanding bill in Manipur, the officer appealed to the customers to pay of their pending bills and said that the same could be cleared in instalments.
